Hanako Teranishi
I am connected to the JCAM community in that I am a mixed yonsei Japanese Canadian. My father’s side is Japanese and we are survivors of Japanese Internment/incarceration. My community connection also lies in my volunteer work. I entered my second year as a committee member of the National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) Young Leader Committee (YLC). I also volunteer locally at JCAM during folklorama and other events if I am able to attend. I am also attached to the community through community projects. Currently, I am a writer for the kamishibai project and was a recipienct of the Japanese Legacy Scholarships in 2023.
I am interested in joining the board because I am passionate about community work and would like to contribute my voice to the organization as a younger member. I believe that JCAM is a strong organization, but could still benefit from more diverse perspectives and voices that are not currently given a platform. I would like to help contribute to JCAM in planning events and also help imagine the organization’s place/role in the future.
I am very interested in education and social justice/human rights work.
