HAROLD HIROSE EDUCATION FUND
As a major community worker, Mr. Harold Hirose was a driving force in the development of the Manitoba Japanese Canadian community. A founding member of the MJCCA (1946) and NJCCA (1947) Mr. Hirose was also responsible for the formation of the Manitoba Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (1987) and served as the MJCCC’s first president.
In memory of her husband Harold, Mrs. Florence Hirose established the Harold Hirose Scholarship Fund with the MJCCC to sponsor a scholarship to assist a selected student in furthering his or her education. Supplemental contributions were made by Mrs. Hirose during her lifetime and upon her passing. The children of Harold and Florence have made an additional contribution to the Fund whereby the Fund could increase the scholarship amount and widen the eligibility criteria.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Each year JCAM will offer scholarship(s) up to a total amount of $1,500 to the successful candidate. The Selection Committee may award up to two scholarships in the amount of $750 instead of a single scholarship if there are two applicants which are superior to all others and are both equally qualified to be awarded the scholarship.
In an event that there is no scholarship awarded in any given year due to a lack of applications or that no applicant met the minimum selection criteria, the amount of the scholarship for that year will be added to the following year’s funds, so that, $3,000 would be available for the following year.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Any person who is enrolled at a post secondary institution, resides in Manitoba and who is of Japanese ancestry or who is a member of the Japanese community in Manitoba.

Please pick up an application form at the Cultural Centre located at 180 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, MB or download a copy of the Harold Hirose Scholarship Form and return it to the centre.
Completed applications must be received by the JCAM Scholarship Committee by September 30.

ハロルド廣瀬奨学金基金
ハロルド廣瀬氏は、マニトバ州における日系カナダ人コミュニティの発展の原動力であり、MJCCAマニトバ日系カナダ人協会（昭和２１年設立）と、NJCCA全国日系カナダ人協会（昭和２２年設立）設立メンバーのひとりでした。また、マニトバ日系カナダ人文化会館（昭和６２年設立）（以下、MJCCC）の設立に寄与し、初代会長を務められました。
廣瀬氏の令夫人フローレンスさんは、夫の廣瀬氏を偲び、MJCCCと共に学生を支援するため、ハロルド廣瀬奨学金基金を設立されました。広瀬令夫人は、たびたび追加の寄付をされ、ご子息、ご息女も寄付をされたことで、基金は奨学金の額を増やし、適格基準を広げることが出来ました。
奨学金授与
JCAMは、毎年度、選考された学生に1,500ドルを上限に奨学金を授与しています。選考委員会は、甲乙つけ難い学生2名が候補に残った場合、750ドルを上限とする奨学金を各学生に授与します。
申請がないもしくは、申請者が選考基準に満たず奨学金の授与がなかった場合、当該年度の奨学金を、翌年度の奨学金に加算し、3,000ドルを上限とします。
応募資格
マニトバ在住の日系カナダ人、移民資格を有する日本人で、大学、専門学校等の高等教育機関に属するフルタイムの学生が対象です。詳細は、申請書でご確認ください。
応募方法
申請書は、JCAMホームページからダウンロード(https://www.jcamwpg.ca/hirose-scholarship/)してください。ご記入後、Emailに添付し、info@jcamwpg.caに JCAM Scholarship Committee宛で、9月30日必着で送信してください。
なお、2021年度の締め切りは、11月30日まで延長しました。
