Treasurer – Masataka Fukumoto

My name is Masataka (Mas) Fukumoto and I live in Winnipeg, MB with my wife, Salina. I was born and raised in Japan and moved to Winnipeg at the age of 16 through the St. James Assiniboine school division’s exchange program. I graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree with a major in economics. I currently work at TD Canada Trust where I’ve progressed my career over last 15 years.

My connection with the JCAM community started in 2018 when I volunteered at the Japanese pavilion. Throughout my experiences volunteering with the Japanese Pavilion, I’ve truly enjoyed connecting with people through our culture and have met so many great people. I’ve been volunteering every year since and I’ve held the role of co-treasurer for the past 2 years.

I am interested in joining the Board to further promote the Japanese and Japanese Canadian culture to the next generation. I admire JCAM’s mission and I love to see people connecting through Japanese culture. As an immigrant, I’d welcome the opportunity to support enriching newcomers journeys. From my own experience, I understand that community holds a critical role when someone is immigrating to a new country. I am interested in becoming a board member and my natural strength is in finance. I look forward to continuing to volunteer with Folklorama to celebrate our Japanese culture for many years to come.
